 Dear Pre-K Family!!!

This week we began to learn the Alphabet. We are using a special system called "Handwriting Without Tears," where we learn letters based on its writing complexity, ie: straight lines to curved.

When practicing writing, we form letters from top to bottom while concentrating on fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination. A pencil has to be held using our three fingers: thumb, middle and pointer. We can encourage our little learners at home by practicing holding utensils appropriately (using the same three fingers), peeling a banana -just those fingers, and of course coloring and writing.

On Tuesday, during our morning circle Leo the lizard who loves to eat lemons, visited our classroom. Together, we came up with many words that begin with the letter "L,"such as leaves, letters, lion, ladder, lite, lamp and laughter.

On Wednesday, our brave "show and tellers" shared with the class the items that they themselves brought from home that began with our letter of the week; thank you to our amazing parents for  sending them in. It encourages language skills, public speaking, confidence, pride and self esteem. Everyone participating did a fabulous job!!!

We have also grasped the concept of a number zero. We emptied out a basket of blocks, counted out the number of the children in the class, put in 14 blocks, and passed the basket in a circle where everyone took one, once again emptying the basket to a zero.

Our homework is a fun way to strengthen the knowledge of the concepts we learn in class. Mondays is our weekend news day, please send in a picture of your child doing absolutely anything, so that they can share with the class at rebecca.novikov@gmail.com , Monday's homework is due on Tuesday, Wednesday is a show and tell day for the letter of the week based on Monday's homework , and finally Thursday's homework is due the following Monday.

Furthermore,  we have also mastered the first Letter of the Hebrew Alphabet - the letter Alef!!! We have practiced forming the letter out multicolored sticks of paper and play-dough. It was a lot of fun!!!

Morah Rivki - our Music teacher, came to visit us on Friday. The class had a great time trying out a variety of instruments, following multi step music games with bean bags and scarves, dancing and singing!

Our Shabbos Party is always the favorite activity at the end the busy week. Our honored guests - Shabbos Ima(Mommy) and Shabbos Abba(Daddy) dressed in beautiful clothes for the occasion, head the festivities with the blessings on the candles, grape juice and challah. We love singing Shabbos songs and enjoy each others company by a delicious meal!!!

Strengthening our knowlege through game, singing, texture and color :)

Practicing our three finger grip and working those muscles :)

Using sensory materials such as primary color washable paint, glue and shaving cream, we have created other colors and shades to make our beautiful lollypops for the letter "L."

Our first week has been a great success.

Wishing everyone a successful week,
with love,
Morah Mushki and Morah Rebecca :)
